Preparation

Before you can start designing your website, you should first configure or check the basic settings. Have you granted all users the necessary permissions to work on the website? What about domain management? After all, the website will eventually go live. And have the business hours been entered correctly—the ones displayed in the website’s footer?

What exactly is a domain?

Imagine that the Internet is like a huge city. Every house in this city has a unique address so that the mail knows where to go. It’s the same on the Internet: Every website has its own unique address, called a domain. A domain is like a name for your website. Instead of a complicated combination of numbers that no one can remember (an IP address), your website has a simple, easy-to-remember name, such as www.meineadresse.de.

Why is a domain important?

Domains are important for several reasons:

  • Ease of Access: A domain makes your website easily accessible to visitors. They don’t have to memorize numbers; instead, they can simply type your company name or a relevant keyword into the browser.
  • Brand Building: The domain is part of your brand. A good domain name can help make your brand better known and more recognizable.
  • Professionalism: Having your own domain looks more professional than a free subdomain (e.g., mycompany.free.de). It shows that you’re serious about your online presence.

Domain Management

Domain management in relation to Gastronovi Office involves various tasks related to your domain. These include, for example: correctly linking the domain in Gastronovi Office, setting up DNS forwarding with your hosting provider, publishing your website content, and finally, verifying that the domain is linked correctly.

Correctly Linking the Domain

For the Website module, the domain (web address) must point to the Gastronovi web space (website storage) as described here.

First, you must enter the domain and, if applicable, any additional domains in the Back Office in the appropriate fields. After that, you can publish your website with all its content. This generates the website, saves it to the web space, and makes it accessible to your guests via the domain redirect.

For each domain through which your website should be accessible, follow these steps:

1. Basic Setup in the Back Office

In Gastronovi Office, under Basic Setup > Company Settings, enter the domains in the “Website” field. If this is the main address, enter it under “Website Address,” e.g. , www.meineadresse.de. (Only a single domain should ever be entered here.) Under “Additional Domains,” you can enter one or more additional domains. If there are multiple entries, separate them with commas. All entered additional domains will automatically redirect to the main address (301 redirect), e.g., myaddress.de.

Changes made here usually take effect after about 24 hours.

2. Setting Up a DNS Redirect with Your Hosting Provider

Create or correct the domain’s DNS configuration with your#### hosting provider .

Important: The method involving domain redirection requires that your current hosting provider allow you to modify your DNS entry.

  1. Please change the DNS “A record” entry for the domain with your current provider to the following Gastronovi Office IP address: 62.113.234.3, e.g. !!,
  2. myaddress.de.

Please make the change ONLY to the “A record” that is responsible for resolving all desired domains. Please do NOT make any changes to the “MX record.” If you also apply the DNS change to the “MX record,” incoming emails for your domain may no longer be received!

  1. Also set the “A record” entry for the www. subdomain to the same Gastronovi Office IP address, even if you do not use this subdomain!, e.g.: www.meineadresse.de. This applies even if you do not configure any additional domains in the Back Office.

  2. Please remove the “AAAA record” entry for the domain.

  3. Please remove the “AAAA record” entry for the www subdomain.

The changes will take effect across the Internet after approximately 48 hours.

If you have any further questions, please contact your current provider or administrator.

Publish Website

You can now publish your website with all its content, if you haven’t already done so. After that, the website will be accessible via the domain and no longer just through the internal preview page.

Checking the Link to the Domain

Find out whether the domain points to the Gastronovi webspace by using the DIG tool. This tool allows you to check where a domain points.

Here’s an online version: https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/dig

How to Check the Link

  1. In the “Name” field, enter the exact domain as it appears in the company settings.
  2. In the A tab, the entry after the domain should be IN A 62.113.234.3.
  3. The AAAA tab must be empty.
  4. If this field is blank or contains a different IP address (number), the domain is not yet pointing to the Gastronovi webspace.

This applies to both the domain and the www subdomain.

FAQ – Domain Management

1. What if the domain points to Gastronovi but the website still doesn’t display?

It’s possible that the website hasn’t been generated yet. There could be several reasons for this:

1.1 Are the domains configured in the Back Office?

Please check the information in the basic settings and configure them as described above if necessary.

1.2 Is the website activated in the Back Office?

Please check in Gastronovi Office under “Marketing > Website” to see if the corresponding toggle is activated.

1.3 The settings in Gastronovi Office are correct, but the website still isn’t displaying?

If you’ve checked points 1 and 2 and all settings are correct, it’s still possible that the website hasn’t been generated yet. Please wait about 1 hour and then check again to see if the website is displayed.

If the website still does not appear, please contact our support team at support@gastronovi.com.

2. Is the website delivered with a certificate?

Yes. Security is important to us, so we temporarily deliver your website with a Gastronovi certificate until the system has been able to create and activate a certificate for your domain. This transition phase can take up to 24 hours.

The opening hours you set in the Back Office are automatically displayed on your website. In addition to your regular opening hours, you can also specify exceptions to inform your guests of any changes, such as holidays with different opening hours or company holidays. You can also group individual entries in your opening hours to highlight a “Happy Hour” or other specials.

Recurring Opening Hours

Display your business’s opening hours on your website.

Holidays & Exceptions

Of course, exceptions—such as company holidays or days closed due to public holidays—can also be added.

Administration

You can create thematic groups for both your regular opening hours and the defined exceptions—for example, for happy hour times or similar.

If you’ve enabled additional languages, the groupings can also be translated.

For an overview of all opening hours and exceptions, you can export and print the list.

Please note that the English translation is currently under construction.
